Course Objective

Working with filmmakers of a wide range of experience levels and technical proficiencies, I have found that there is a wide range of expectations and misnomers that can make the process less approachable or inclusive. Through this course, we will build a framework with which to view this process from whatever your technical experience and creative viewpoint might be.

Overview

Standards

Understanding that color at its core is about volume and depth, I always love to start with the concept of a colorspace as a targeted boundary within the conceptual visible spectrum. Once you understand this, you can better understand calibration/working environment which I think is an important fundamental element to the process that can be easily lost in the digital age. I think that going over aspect ratio and its impact on final delivery is important as it usually comes into focus for people in this part of the process if it’d hadn’t previously been considered.

Workflow

From the edit into the grade, we will go over the different elements to prepare to transfer your project based on the variety of potential complexities (and issues).

Creative

I would love to approach this from the perspective of how to come to a session prepared with references (and what makes a good reference). We will take sample sequences and go through the process of basic normalizing process, along with developing basic looks based on references.
